The core symptoms of ADHD are inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.  According to the current DSM-IV, these symptoms manifest themselves in different ways, including:

bullet

 failing to give close attention to details or making careless mistakes

bullet

difficulty sustaining attention

bullet

appearing not to listen when spoken to directly

bullet

not following through on instructions and failing to complete tasks

bullet

 organizational difficulties

bullet

avoiding, or not liking, tasks that require sustained mental effort

 losing things necessary for tasks

bullet

being easily distracted

bullet

forgetfulness

bullet

fidgeting

bullet

 leaving one’s seat in situations where remaining seated is expected

bullet

feelings of restlessness or excessive activity

bullet

 difficulty engaging in leisure activities quietly

bullet

feeling as if  “driven by a motor”

bullet

talking excessively

bullet

 blurting out answers before questions have  been completed

bullet

  impatience - or difficulty waiting

bullet

  interrupting others in activities or conversation
